Letters To Myself
Reminding Myself About These Great Things

You’ve heard of antioxidants. They are all over health-focused books, programs, and commercials. But what are they and what do they do? Should you be taking a natural antioxidant supplement? Yes, but why?

Antioxidants can beat the damage caused by free radicals. They are found in plenty of fruits and vegetables, and can fight and prevent heart disease, certain neurological disorders, and cancers. Antioxidants are crucial in building up your immunity to fight certain diseases and sicknesses. If you find yourself frequently succumbing to colds and flus, it may be time to consider a natural antioxidant supplement and some more fruits and vegetables in your diet.

It is also a big factor in recovering from a workout. You potentially consumer ten times the oxygen during a workout than what you would normally consume. Muscular fatigue sets in due to lack of oxygen getting to the muscles. Free radicals build up to remove damaged muscle tissue. Antioxidants help fight this.

High oxidation in your body can lead to a world of diseases and pains that antioxidants can find. Look at your diet and make some necessary changes. Add a supplement into the mix. You will have the potential to feel better and recover quicker from exercise, fatigue, and sickness.

Media buyers in all businesses have the difficult task of choosing which media will which their customers. Yet so much attention is placed on where to advertise that the advertisements themselves are produced for the broadest audience, one that doesn’t target the companies’ core segment. Getting commercial production done right requires hiring a good commercial production company – one that will put together a professional advertisement that effectively targets your company’s market.

Enlisting the help of an advertisement production studio will not only ensure that the results from the money you spend are worth it, but will also, in the long run, save you time and help you grow your business. By taking all of the logistical elements of shooting a commercial under their own oversight, commercial production companies will save you the headache that comes with trying to find each piece of equipment or each skilled crewman at the cheapest price, never mind the hassle and expense of an independent caterer. That will give you the time that you need to focus on growing your company, at a time when the tendency is for companies that aren’t actively managed for growth to shrink.

There are a number of factors you’ll want to consider in choosing your commercial production company. First, consider how long they’ve been in business. While the company may have some of the most experienced people, if they haven’t been around long, there’s no judging their track record as far as how their commercials pan out for customers. Repeat business means customers believe that their return on investment from these production companies is substantial enough to warrant repeat business. Next, you’ll want to consider geography. Given that you’re going to probably be shuttling between the production site and your own company when the shooting takes place, you’ll want it to be nearby. That means that if you’re in Florida, you should probably choose a production company in Florida, and not one in New York. Next, you’ll want to look at the quality of previous work for yourself. Does it jibe with your vision of what you want your customers to see? If not, are they willing to bring the commercial they make into alignment with your view of what it should look like?

In the end, it’s going to come down to a decision from your gut. Do you like the people with whom you have interfaced? Do they seem creative as well as capable? Who are their other clients? Answers to these questions will either make or break a deal with a company that shoots commercials, so they are worth considering as you decide where to take your business.

Many people interested in pursuing a martial art like karate or jiu jitsu are discouraged by what seems to be an overwhelming quantity of budget karate academies popping up around the Dallas area. It seems that all you need to open up martial arts schools in Dallas, Texas is a black belt and enough cash to get you through a quick do-it-yourself dojo renovation an a couple months of low revenue. That is to say, it seems that owing to the surge in popularity of martial arts – attributable in no small way to the increased popularity of UFC and mixed martial arts or MMA – a lot of rather unqualified people have gotten into the business of teaching karate – a practice that hurts students as much as it hurts the reputations of the martial arts these teachers claim to teach.

Finding a reputable karate academy in the Dallas area is daunting enough to make you want to avoid pursuing your black-belt dreams altogether. You shouldn’t be discouraged; even though there are dozens of mediocre teachers out there who want nothing more than your money, there are others still that want to see you improve – improve your self-defense skills, improve your fitness, improve your alacrity, improve your self-confidence… in short, improve your life.

Finding a good martial arts school is a lot like finding a good professor. It is important that they be extremely comfortable with the material and know it extremely well; but it is equally important that they are able to convey that knowledge to you in a way that you understand, and that they are able to motivate you not only to attend your classes several times per week, but also that they can motivate you when you’re in class to succeed.

Having detailed the right aspects of a good martial arts instructor, it seems obvious then that the best martial arts school is one that employs teachers with the most experience and has a reputation as one of the better schools. In a way, a good martial arts academy perpetuates its own success by attracting the best talent – teachers who want to work for the academy with the best teachers, much as newly doctored students all want to work at Harvard. So when looking for a place to learn martial arts, remember the three most important things about a martial arts school: experience, experience, experience!

Commodity Charts
August 25th, 2008 by admin in Commodity Charts, Gold News No Comments

A point and figure commodity charts is used for technical analysis of securities. Unlike many other investment charts, point and figure commodity charts do not represent a linear representation of time. They instead, show trends in price.

The aim of point and figure commodity charting is to filter out the unimportant price movement and focus on the true direction of the price trend.

Point and figure commodity charts are usually used for a longer-term price movement. Having said that, they can also be used to day trade by clearly identifying the key points of demand and supply. They are also very effective at keeping you on the correct side of the market. Point and figure commodity charts can do a really great job to spot some really good trading opportunities on a trade and trend market. Point and figure commodity charts are close relatives to three-line break, renko and kagi charts, which do not have a fixed time rame. This will make you trade only the important moves of the market; small moves are discarded because of the limited gain potential.

There are two typical ways to plot point and figure commodity charts, using closing prices, or with high/low prices. The most common method in today’s market is high/low prices of a specific period usually daily price. The close (EOD) method was also used until 1947 when A.W. Cohen invented a new system to work with point and figure commodity charts using high/low prices. A.W. Cohen also invented in 1955, the bullish percent indicator BP. A tool to gauge the market breadth of a particular market or index.

Today, Chart craft is Investors Intelligence. Website Investors intelligence was used for the calculation of the BP high/low prices of the day because of the fact he invented the high/low system on point and figure commodity charts. However, it is also possible to calculate the BP with close only prices but the outcome became two different BP charts.

Closing prices are very useful when charting price movement for funds or suchlike where there are no real ways to get the intraday prices for that fund. Nevertheless, we can use the close only prices for every kind of market because the intraday movement of prices can be very confusing. If you take into account that point and figure commodity charting in the last parts of the 19th century and the first parts of the 20th century was used to record price movement of tick charts, the close only price would be one tick. Specifically our last tick for the trading day.

Smile Makeover
August 12th, 2008 by admin in Smile Makeover, Teeth Whiteners No Comments

A Smile Makeover will involve consideration of your facial appearance, skin tone, hair color, teeth, gum tissue, and lips to develop a customized smile. It is not just about the teeth. The results of such a makeover are improvements as follows:

·        Optimal Tooth Color: Silver or amalgam dental fillings can be replaced with natural color, tooth-colored composite restorations and teeth whitening can improve the color of all stained teeth. Tooth color and shading are very important considerations during the evaluation and preparation for many different procedures, including porcelain veneers and dental implants.

·        Aligning for Success: Crooked, overlapping, or gapping teeth can also be straightened when necessary through orthodontics and improved with veneers.

·        A Full Set: Missing teeth can be replaced by dental implants, bridges, or partial dentures.

·        Contoured for Look: Uneven teeth can be bonded for better looking appearance. Gummy smiles can be re-contoured to help improve the overall look of ones smile.

·        The Full Face Effect: An unshapely or even aging face can be improved or rejuvenated with certain procedures in the Smile Makeover category, including orthodontics and or oral maxillofacial surgery.

What is The Life of Your Smile Makeover?

Cosmetic dentistry procedures can require maintenance over a period of time. Teeth whitening should be repeated on occasion in order to maintain brightness. Porcelain veneers can chip or break off and need replacement. Permanent bondings can stain and require enhancement or replacement. Dental crowns will typically require replacement after 10 to 15 years. Gummy smile improvements could also require enhancement over a period of time.

Your ceramist, lab technician, and the materials chosen by your dentist are also affecting the longevity of your Smile Makeover. To achieve the best results, you must take special care in selecting your cosmetic dentist.

Let us talk about what a website is first.  A website (alternatively, web site or Web site,) is a collection of Web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that are hosted on one or more web servers and usually accessible via the Internet.

A web page is a document, usually written in (X) HTML that is almost always accessible by HTTP, a protocol that transfers information from the web server to display in the user’s web browser.

All publicly accessible websites will be seen collectively as constituting the World Wide Web.

The pages of all websites can generally be accessed from a common root URL called the homepage, and will usually reside on the same physical server. The URLs of the pages will organize them into a hierarchy, but the hyperlinks between them control how the reader perceives the overall structure and how the traffic flows between the different parts of the websites.

Some websites will require a subscription to access some or all of their content. Examples of subscription sites can include many business sites, parts of many news sites, academic journal sites, gaming sites, message boards, Web based e-mail, services, social networking websites, and sites providing real time stock market data. This is because they will require authentication to view the content they are technically called an Intranet site.

Ok, so what is a copywriter?  A copywriter uses words to help promote a persons business, opinion, or idea. A copywriter can also use plain text, as a radio or television advertisement, or in a variety of other types of media. The main purpose of copywriting, (also know as promotional text), is to simply persuade a listener or reader to act: to buy a certain product or subscribe to a certain viewpoint. Alternatively, copywriting can also be intended to dissuade a reader or listener from a certain belief or action. Copywriting in literal terms is getting across the perfect message, by using the perfect words.

Let us put the two together now.  A Web copywriter is simply one that writes copy for the purpose of using the internet as there forum.

Few things smell or taste better than plump fruit picked at the peak of perfection. So why not give the gift of good taste? These days, there are countless varieties of exotic and otherwise delicious fruits that are grown specifically to wow their lucky recipients: head-sized pears, hand-shaped lemons and even “star fruit.” In winter or in summer, a basket of fresh ripe fruit is sure to impress and delight.

Why give fresh fruit gift baskets? First, fruit is highly symbolic. Trees bare fruit just as parents bare progeny. Moreover, they are often associated with seduction, taking a page from Genesis – all of sin for an apple, if you remember. And last, since fruit are not only the product of trees but also themselves contain the seed for future trees, they are symbolic of children and parenting in one. Giving fruit can be considered the most thoughtful and symbolic gesture if it is given as a gift of congratulations (as congratulations mark the birth of something new), a gift celebrating a newborn, wedding, or engagement, or as a get well gift since fruit contains within it the nourishment to return to health. But the gift of fruit goes further than symbolism – it is just down right delicious. That’s why I often find myself giving fruit as a thank you gift, a housewarming gift, or a “just because” gift.

It used to be that you had to live in sunny California or Florida to give fruit that anyone cared about – unless you lived in New York or Georgia and could give apples or peaches. But these days, you don’t need to live next to the orchard or grove in order to give the gift of great-tasting fruit year round. Online gift basket companies put together some of the best fruit gift baskets I have ever seen. Filled with rare fruits like calamansi, buddha’s hands, Muscat grapes, and perfect peaches these baskets will impress not only with the quantity of rare fruits but also with the quality, as these companies pay a pretty penny to get their pick of the crop.

A word of advice: if you are looking to give the gift of fruit, order your gift basket from a company that specializes in gift baskets and not necessarily straight from the orchard. Though you’ll pay a premium, the recipient of your gift will appreciate it all the more. Gift basket companies are experts when it comes to arranging, packing, and shipping your fruit so that it is beautiful and perfectly fresh and ripe when it arrives to its destination, whereas groves or orchards really only specialize in growing fruit.

The conventional wisdom says that English is the language of business. But to what extent is business - and economic growth, for that matter - contingent on fluency in the language? An examination of the rise of India and China in the global economy offers insight into the relevance of language as a driver for growth, and reveals that the conventional wisdom may be right, but needn’t be applied universally.

It is worth considering first the growth story unfolding in India. After years of a cool Asian economic climate, in the late 1990s India emerged as a force to be reckoned with, as high value currencies such as the dollar, pound, and marc were leveraged by the cheap Indian rupee and a large supply of great labor. But what facilitated the transfer of wealth from richer countries to a developing country like India was - in a large part - an English-speaking lower class that could replace English speakers in many English-speaking ‘back offices’ located in rich countries, where costs of living demanded that high wages were paid to workers. The result was a massive shift not only in service jobs that led to the now ubiquitous Indian call centers, but also a shift in technology jobs, as a skilled, English-speaking engineering class emerged that was willing to work for a fraction of their American counterparts. Of course, all things do come to an end, and with the creation of a broad-based middle class, so came with it the seeds for tougher times: the rupee appreciated on world markets and prices rose, leading to a much more expensive Indian workforce that made many foreign companies reconsider their investments there. Nevertheless, a newfound middle class ensured that there would be domestic demand for Indian goods and services allowing India to ‘fish for itself’ in the pursuit of economic growth. Had India not had such a large English-speaking population, it is fair to say that it would have remained off the radar of many foreign companies that sought to cut costs, and thus would have remained without the middle class necessary to grow the economy from within.

China, however, offers an interesting counterexample to the utility of English. Whereas in India about 50% of the population speaks English fluently or marginally as a second language, in China that percentage is somewhere in the low single digits. Nevertheless, China’s economy has managed outgrow India’s at a rate of almost 2 to 1. The Chinese growth story, however, is a different one from India’s. Where India’s growth was in a large part the result of job creation in the services sector, which led to a growth in jobs elsewhere in the economy to support a new middle class, China’s growth was driven by the cheapness of labor and thus the cheapness with which goods could be manufactured and sold on the world market, in no small part also due to the country’s manipulation of currency. While the country has made great strides towards teaching English, China never required English on the same scale because growth was fueled by Chinese-speaking factory workers and not English-speaking administrative staff and engineers. Nevertheless, the Chinese growth story would have never unfolded without the demand for Chinese goods from America and Europe, which, to be sure, was facilitated by the existence of Chinese businessmen who spoke English and - to a lesser extent - Chinese expatriate businessmen living in the west who were able to get deals done.

It was my dream.  To live and work, short-term, in a foreign country.  I had wanted to try this for a long time and now, immediately after graduation from college, seemed like the time.  When better to leave the country than when you owe vast sums?

The question was how to achieve it.  First, get a position somewhere overseas.  Then move there and work for a while, hopefully accumulating new language skills and a few mementos along the way.  I envisioned Japanese fans and kimonos, German steins and lederhosen, Russian hats and empty casks of vodka decorating my future home.

As it happened, the job came to me instead of me going to it.  I am fanatical about reading the newspaper; for some reason I have to read it cover-to-cover daily or I worry that a disease that I had no previous knowledge of will come and wipe out my life.  A bus I was riding, owned by a company that I didn’t realize had a really bad maintenance reputation and record, would lose its brakes and I’d find myself doing a header off the Fremont Bridge.

So, reading the paper one day in a local coffee shop, I saw it.  An ad for English teachers in Japan.  After applying, suiting up and teaching mock English lessons for three “students” in a dead classroom, and lying to overly-intrusive questions about my abilities to be a workaholic in a foreign country, I had the job.

So:  how to get there…  Do I hire some international moving company and transfer my entire life?  Or do I sell everything and start over in a new place, trying to interpret sizes on clothes and shoes and developing new, weird tastes in furniture?  I had some money to invest in this, and a deadline that I could live with, which was a blessing.

I decided on going the international moving company route, getting out of Dodge with my stuff intact.  I prefer to have some semblance of continuity in life, if it’s achievable.  But here is where enthusiasm and optimism came to a shuddering, crunching crash with reality.  The money kind, that is.

International moving companies are few.  They are expensive.  And they live for liability.  Fortunately, they also are very careful if they want to preserve their reputations and businesses.  So, after extensive review of the web sites I found and testimonials I read, I hired an international moving company of some repute.  I signed on every dotted line, massaging my hand at the end.

Worth the money?  Every penny!  I couldn’t believe this operation.  They came into my world and boxed it in two days.  They even wrapped my teaspoons in bubble wrap and taped them together.  Getting everything to Japan wasn’t a problem.  Getting everything untapped, unrolled, and unpacked took about three weeks.

Because of the efforts of the international moving company I flew to Japan in peace, lived two years in constant wonder at my surroundings, and came home after a hard day’s work to an environment I recognized as home.

Cleaning Up Smoke Damage
June 25th, 2008 by admin in Toronto No Comments

Fire is a veritable nightmare for any property owner, whether it is an apartment complex, a house, a business, or even just a piece of land.  It can be devastating, but the most danger and expense usually comes from fires that affect the inside of a home or other building.  These can wreak havoc on the lives of those who live in the home or even just the person renting it out, depending on whose fault the fire was, if it was anyone’s fault.  There are a few things that you should do and not do if your house is the victim of a fire in order to clean up, especially if you cannot hire a restoration company to help you do so.

First, let us talk about the things that you really should do.

If you have pets in the home, you should remove them and get them to a safe environment as quickly as possible after the fire is out.  You should not allow your pets, especially birds, to re-enter the home until the damage is taken care of.  Birds are especially sensitive to smoke and other gases, so getting them removed from the home is very important to prevent the loss of life.

Open the windows and allow the air from outside to circulate.  This will help get rid of the smell of smoke in the home.  If your vacuum cleaner made it out of the fire or preferably if you have access to someone else’s, then using this to collect soot and other particles from your carpets, curtains, and upholstery should be the next thing that you do.

If you have plants, wash them completely in water and make sure that soot and other particles are not allowed to stay on them for long.

The things that you should not do should start with not using any electrical appliances (including your vacuum cleaner) until they have been checked and cleaned.

Do not attempt to clean porous surfaces like your ceilings and walls.

Sitting down on any furniture in your home that is upholstered (i.e. porous) is not recommended until they have been vacuumed and covered with plastic.

Any food items that were in the home at the time of the fire should be thrown away.  This includes canned goods.

These tips are designed with your safety and your home’s restoration in mind.  There may be other things that a restoration company could do to help you and in some cases, hiring a professional is the best thing that you can do.  Weigh the pros and cons of hiring a professional and then decide what is best for you.  Dealing with a home that has been water damaged due to the water from fire trucks is also another matter to contend with.  Always consider hiring a professional to deal with extensive damage.
