How does Checkbook Control Expand Your Investment Options?

April 17th, 2008

A self directed checkbook IRA allows you to have checkbook control of your IRA retirement account.

If you’re a seasoned real estate investor, you know how quickly expenses can add up. A few trips to Lowes, a few calls to your contractor or a simple mistake made by an inexperienced handyman means you have to shell out money, money, money – right out of your pocket.

Now imagine in addition, if you had to pay an additional fee to the custodian every time you needed to cover an expense related to your investment. On top of your financial losses, it can be an enormous expense of time and frustrating to say the least. We are sure you would agree that this is no way to steward what is likely the most important asset you have – your IRA nest egg.

Checkbook control means practically being able to buy what you need when you need it and not when you can chase down your custodian for a signature. As you probably already know, sometimes the best investments are made before others learn about them. Without checkbook writing privileges, great investment opportunities could be missed.

What Does Checkbook Control Of Your IRA Mean?

Having checkbook control means you get to manage your IRA retirement account to maximize your retirement investment. Checkbook control gives you the ability to invest in practically any way you see fit. The following is a short list of what you can invest in with your Checkbook IRA: undeveloped land, tax liens, hard money loans, private notes, commercial real estate, discounted paper – the list is practically endless.

Checkbook control gives you the ultimate control over your retirement funds. Call TSD-IRA to learn more at 877-339-4559.

Buying Boxes

April 16th, 2008

Boxes and bags are the staple for moving - whether you’re using plastic boxes and under bed storage containers, or getting cardboard ones - using suitcases, or black and plastic bags, you’ll need to consider how many you need and allow for extra. You’ll also need newspapers, paper, packing foam and/or bubble wrap. You’ll also need tape, a marker pen and if you get them, stickers to mark your boxes.

Buying boxes and containers from hardware stores or supermarkets is a good way to get sturdy, reusable containers for your new house, but may not prove to be cost effective if you’ve got lots of belongings. Boxes are a good, cheap alternative to plastic containers and can be bought from websites, along with tape and stickers to mark your boxes.

Boxes are a great way to pack things into regular spaces and makes them easier to carry. You can also get boxes from supermarkets, and sometimes from recycler and on Craig’s list. Some removal firms also supply them if you’re using their vans, or their moving men, or provide them if you are letting them pack for you. Packing clothes into suitcases or bags means that they are easy to transport, and easy to fit into spare spaces in your transport, but you need to make sure that the bags or cases are sturdy enough to contain your belongings well.

Cheap bags are no good if you need to use two of them or they burst when you pick them up. Snagging risks are also something you’ll have to consider, as anything sharp might cause tears in your bags. Containers should all be stackable to get the most use whilst moving - or should be placed in front of your boxes so that your space is maximized whilst the move is in progress.

Self Directed IRA Custodians Are Not All Created Equally

April 4th, 2008

Don’t look to your local bank or mutual fund company for help when self directing your IRA. There are only a handful of IRA custodians who will allow you to invest your IRA funds in alternative assets like real estate, trust deeds and tax liens. You need to get an independent self directed IRA custodian that will allow you to self direct your funds into non-traditional assets.

Self directed IRA custodians may have broader rules for what investors can use their IRA to invest in. However, independently they can limit what assets IRA holders can purchase inside their retirement account. In some cases, the rules at the custodian may be stricter than what is even in the actual IRS code.

In addition, fees vary widely from one IRA custodian to another. Make sure you understand the fee structure before transferring your IRA funds. Custodial fees will be a key factor when determining the return on investment for any real estate investment you maybe structuring.

Investors should do thorough research when choosing a self-directed IRA custodian for their retirement funds. Keep in mind when self directing your IRA, there are also some time sensitive investments that may be difficult to manage inside your self directed IRA because of the approval process the custodian.

Self Directed IRA custodians are not allowed to give you advice on structuring your real estate investment transactions. Their main purpose is to hold your retirement funds and report the asset values to the IRS. If you need advice on how to structure a real estate deal properly, then check around and look around for a self directed or real estate IRA advisor. A reputable self directed IRA company should be able to point you in the right direction.

As more and more businesses realize the power of the internet, the ways that we live and work are becoming more flexible. Many companies offer incentives for their employees to work from home one or more times a week, while government programs may pay up to $300 a month to telecommuters and carpoolers. This is fantastic news for everyone, but the flexibility available to small business owners is truly incredible.

With this rise in electronic commuting comes a new wave in vacationing: the working vacation. As more and more small businesses become entirely “portable,” owners are taking more time with their families, and the idea of a pleasant family dinner on a beach balcony, followed by stargazing, bedtime, and mom or dad taking an hour or two before bed to “check in at the office” is no longer something for the rest of the family to complain about, but rather to be thankful for. However, before taking your own working vacation, be sure that you’re prepared for the complications that are so inherent to this new, electronic office.

Many savvy working vacationers choose locations like the Gulf Shores for their “holidays” because the weather is pleasant year-round, the prices are affordable and the atmosphere is laid-back and family friendly. If you decide to try out Gulf Shores for your next working vacation, here are some tips to be sure you’re as relaxed – and productive – as possible.

1.    Find Emergency Gulf Shores Computer Repair Before You Have A Problem

Know Your Rights? If Not An Attorney Can Help

December 1st, 2007

When a child is born with or s stricken with a developmental develops a disability, the Department of Health and Senior Services is legally responsible for making available in-home services at little to no cost to the family. This is called the Early Intervention Program. Some of the services available include, visiting nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists, developmental therapists and occupational therapists.

Once your child turns three-years-old, Federal Law requires under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that a preschool child with a disability be provided with “a free and appropriate public education and services in the least restrictive environment.” A child with disabilities could be something as minor as a speech delay or as serious as Autism, Downs Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy.

In many non-english speaking communities, word does not get out that these services exist. Too often parents learn after the fact that the school district is required to provide preschool disabled children with education and other services. .
If you think your preschooler might qualify for services, to initiate the process you need to make a written request for an evaluation to your local school district. Preferably this should be done 120 days before your child’s third birthday. Once your school district receives your request a Child Study Team must schedule a meeting with you.

A Child Study Team is a crucial component of any special education program. This team consists of a speech-language specialist, a school psychologist, a learning disabilities teacher consultant, and a school social worker. These specialists are selected and paid by your school district. This meeting determines whether an evaluation is warranted. It is your legal right to have any referral considered. The law allows you to have an attorney with you, if you wish, to ensure that your voice is heard and you are fully aware of your options.

When the evaluation is completed you will attend an eligibility meeting to discuss the results. If your child is found to be “disabled” under the, law he or she will be eligible for free special education and related services. In Monmouth County each town has their own public special education preschool program and many provide free transportation. If you disagree with the evaluations provided by the school you have a right to request a new or independent evaluation at the school’s expense. If your child is determined to not be eligible for the school you have a right to appeal the decision. An attorney experienced in education and special education law can be extremely beneficial in advocating your appeal of the school’s decision and helping you to secure special education services for your child.

Too often parents are not informed of their rights and available tools such as assistive technology, extended school year programs, and positive behavioral supports to help their children reach full potential. An attorney well versed in education law can advise and advocate on your child’s behalf. Don’t let a child study team tell you that they know their program and they know what your child needs. You as a parent are the expert regarding your child. If you disagree with your child’s program and / or IEP, the law provides you with valuable rights and powerful mechanisms to make sure your child receives all the special services he or she is entitled. You are permitted to bring an attorney to the IEP meeting to help advocate your position and if necessary appeal any decisions made by the school. As parents you are guaranteed a voice in determining the appropriate program for your child. If necessary an attorney can help you be heard.
